The Spyderco Ambitious SL/PL 2.14" Lightweight C148PBK is a compact, high-value folding knife designed for users who want reliable Spyderco performance in a smaller, easy-to-carry package. Featuring a 2.14-inch plain edge blade and lightweight black fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) handles, the Ambitious offers an excellent balance of cutting capability, portability, and affordability. As part of Spyderco’s popular value series, this model delivers smooth operation, solid construction, and everyday practicality at a price point that makes it accessible to a wide range of knife enthusiasts.

Why Choose the Spyderco Ambitious Lightweight?

The Spyderco Ambitious was developed as a smaller, more compact alternative to the popular Persistence and Resilience models. The C148PBK version features black FRN handles that significantly reduce the overall weight of the knife, making it ideal for everyday carry where a larger folder might feel too bulky. The 2.14-inch plain edge blade is perfectly sized for most daily cutting tasks while remaining discreet and comfortable to carry in a pocket. With its smooth liner construction and signature Spyderco Round Hole, the Ambitious provides fast, reliable blade deployment and refined handling. Whether you’re looking for a lightweight backup knife, a compact everyday carry option, or an affordable introduction to Spyderco quality, the Ambitious Lightweight delivers impressive performance in a small, practical package.

Performance and Handling

The Spyderco Ambitious Lightweight is designed for users who prioritize portability without sacrificing functionality. The 2.14-inch plain edge blade is well-suited for a wide range of everyday tasks such as opening packages, cutting cord, slicing food, and general utility work. The flat grind blade geometry provides good slicing performance while remaining easy to maintain and sharpen.

The black FRN handles keep the overall weight very low, making the Ambitious one of the most comfortable compact folders to carry throughout the day. The textured surface of the FRN provides a secure grip, even in wet conditions. The smooth liner construction allows the blade to deploy and close with minimal resistance, while the back lock offers a strong and positive lockup during use. The Spyderco Round Hole enables fast, one-handed opening with either hand. Despite its compact size, the Ambitious maintains the excellent ergonomics and build quality that Spyderco is known for, making it a practical choice for everyday carry, outdoor activities, or as a lightweight backup knife.
