APRS-H2 Illuminated MIL Reticle

The APRS-H2 is a precision-oriented Christmas tree-style MIL reticle located in the second focal plane. It features a floating center dot for precise aiming along with a detailed grid of hash marks below the center for rapid holdovers at various distances. Windage correction marks on both sides of the reticle allow shooters to quickly compensate for crosswinds. The illuminated portion of the reticle offers multiple brightness settings, ensuring excellent visibility in low-light conditions while remaining crisp during bright daylight. Because it is a second focal plane reticle, the size of the reticle remains constant throughout the magnification range, making it easier to use at lower magnifications for close to medium-range shots.

Premium Optical Performance

The Athlon ARES HLR 2.5-15x42 utilizes high-definition (HD) glass that delivers outstanding resolution, color fidelity, and edge-to-edge clarity. Athlon’s advanced Fully Multi-Coated lenses maximize light transmission while minimizing glare and reflections. The 42mm objective lens provides an excellent balance between light-gathering capability and a compact, manageable size. Whether engaging targets at long range or hunting during low-light hours, this scope produces bright, sharp images with excellent contrast and minimal chromatic aberration.

Technical Specifications

Why Choose the Athlon ARES HLR 2.5-15x42 with APRS-H2?

The Athlon ARES HLR series offers exceptional value in the premium long-range optics market. The APRS-H2 reticle is specifically designed for shooters who prefer working in MILs, providing a detailed Christmas tree pattern that allows for fast and accurate holdovers and wind corrections. The second focal plane design keeps the reticle size consistent, which many shooters find more intuitive at lower magnifications. Athlon’s use of high-quality HD glass and durable construction ensures this scope can handle the demands of serious long-range shooting while remaining competitively priced. The combination of features, optical quality, and reliability makes the Model 212132 a strong contender for precision rifle enthusiasts and long-range hunters.

Ideal Applications

The Athlon ARES HLR 2.5-15x42 with APRS-H2 reticle excels in long-range precision shooting, tactical applications, and extended-range hunting. The MIL-based reticle is particularly popular among shooters who use MIL-based ballistic calculators and prefer working in milliradians. The 2.5x low end provides a wide field of view for closer targets or moving game, while the 15x top end offers the magnification needed for precise shots at extended distances. This scope is well-suited for precision rifle competitions, long-range varmint and predator hunting, and big game hunting at longer ranges where accurate holdovers are required.

Build Quality and Durability

Athlon Optics builds the ARES HLR with a robust 30mm one-piece aircraft-grade aluminum tube that provides superior strength and a generous adjustment range. The scope is argon purged and sealed to be completely waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof. The precision-machined turrets deliver positive, repeatable clicks, while the zero stop feature allows shooters to quickly return to their original zero after dialing for long-range shots. The matte black finish reduces glare and provides a professional appearance suitable for both hunting and tactical use.
