Illuminated Center-X SFP MOA Reticle

The Center-X reticle is a clean, intuitive second focal plane MOA reticle designed specifically for hunting. It features a simple crosshair with MOA-based hash marks that allow for precise holdovers and windage corrections at various distances. The red illumination offers multiple brightness settings, enabling hunters to maintain a clear aiming point in low-light conditions without washing out the target. Because the reticle is located in the second focal plane, it remains a consistent size throughout the magnification range, making it easy to use at lower powers for close-range shots while still providing useful aiming points when zoomed in.

Exposed Tactical Turrets

One of the standout features of this NEOS HMR model is its exposed tactical turrets. Unlike traditional capped turrets, these exposed turrets allow for quick and easy elevation and windage adjustments in the field without the need to remove caps. This makes the scope ideal for hunters who may need to dial for longer shots or make quick corrections based on changing conditions. The turrets provide positive, repeatable clicks and are designed for reliable performance in demanding hunting environments.

Optical Performance

The Athlon NEOS HMR 4-12x40 utilizes fully multi-coated lenses that deliver bright, clear images with good color contrast. The 4-12x magnification range is highly versatile, offering a wide field of view at 4x for close to medium-range shots and up to 12x magnification for precise shots at longer distances. The 40mm objective lens provides a solid balance between light transmission and a compact, lightweight profile, making this scope easy to carry during long days in the field while still performing well during low-light periods.

The Athlon NEOS HMR series offers hunters an affordable optic with exposed tactical turrets and illumination — features typically found on much more expensive scopes. The combination of the illuminated Center-X reticle and easy-to-adjust exposed turrets makes this scope highly practical for hunters who may need to make quick elevation or windage corrections in low-light conditions. The 4-12x40 configuration remains one of the most popular and effective magnification ranges for medium to long-range hunting. Athlon has built a strong reputation for delivering solid performance at competitive prices, and the NEOS HMR continues that tradition as a dependable choice for hunters who want quality, functionality, and low-light capability without spending a fortune.

Ideal Applications

The Athlon NEOS HMR 4-12x40 with illuminated Center-X reticle and exposed turrets is an excellent all-around hunting scope. It performs well for whitetail deer, mule deer, hogs, and other medium to large game at typical hunting distances. The exposed turrets make it particularly useful for hunters who occasionally take longer shots and need to dial corrections quickly. The illuminated reticle provides a significant advantage during dawn and dusk hunts when many game animals are most active. This scope is well-suited for hunters who want a simple, reliable optic with the added convenience of tactical-style turrets and low-light performance.

Build Quality and Durability

The NEOS HMR is constructed with a one-piece aircraft-grade aluminum tube that provides strength and durability while keeping weight to a minimum. The scope is nitrogen purged and sealed to be waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof, ensuring it can withstand the rigors of hunting in all weather conditions. The exposed turrets are designed for precise and repeatable adjustments, and the illuminated reticle is powered by a standard battery with multiple brightness settings. The overall build quality reflects Athlon’s commitment to producing reliable optics that hunters can depend on season after season.
