The Barrett MRAD SMR .338 Lapua Magnum 24" Shadow Black Bolt Action Rifle 20164 (UPC 810021512396) is a high-performance, modular precision rifle designed for long-range shooters who demand exceptional accuracy, reliability, and adaptability. Built by Barrett, a name synonymous with world-class long-range firearms, the MRAD SMR (Short/Medium Range) model offers the same legendary performance as the full-size MRAD in a more compact configuration. Chambered in the powerful .338 Lapua Magnum, this rifle is capable of delivering devastating downrange energy at extreme distances. The 24-inch barrel provides an excellent balance between velocity and maneuverability, while the Shadow Black finish delivers a low-profile, tactical appearance. Whether used for long-range precision shooting, extreme long-range competitions, or professional applications, the Barrett MRAD SMR stands as one of the most advanced and capable bolt-action rifles available today.

The Barrett MRAD platform was developed to meet the demanding requirements of military and elite long-range shooters. The SMR variant brings that same level of performance in a more compact and versatile package.

Powerful .338 Lapua Magnum Performance

Chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum, the MRAD SMR delivers unmatched long-range capability. This cartridge is renowned for its ability to maintain supersonic velocities well beyond 1,500 yards while delivering massive terminal energy. The 24-inch barrel is optimized to take full advantage of the .338 Lapua’s ballistic potential, providing excellent velocity and accuracy for extreme long-range engagements. This makes the MRAD SMR an outstanding choice for shooters who require reliable performance at distances where most other calibers fall short.

Modular and User-Configurable Design

One of the defining features of the Barrett MRAD is its highly modular construction. The SMR model allows users to quickly change barrels, stocks, and other components to suit different missions or preferences. The rifle features a robust aluminum chassis with M-LOK accessory mounting points, giving shooters the flexibility to customize their setup with bipods, lights, lasers, and other accessories. This modularity makes the MRAD SMR a true multi-role precision rifle capable of adapting to a wide range of shooting scenarios.

24-Inch Barrel Configuration

The 24-inch barrel on the MRAD SMR offers an ideal balance between long-range performance and overall rifle length. While shorter than some extreme long-range barrels, the 24-inch length still allows the .338 Lapua Magnum to achieve impressive velocities while improving handling and reducing overall weight. The barrel is precision-manufactured to Barrett’s exacting standards, ensuring consistent accuracy and long service life even under heavy use.

Shadow Black Finish

This model features Barrett’s Shadow Black finish, a durable, low-reflective coating that provides excellent corrosion resistance while maintaining a tactical, non-glare appearance. The Shadow Black finish is well-suited for both field use and competition environments where a low-visibility profile is desired. It helps protect the rifle from the elements while preserving its professional appearance over time.

Adjustable Stock and Ergonomics

The MRAD SMR is equipped with an adjustable stock that allows shooters to customize length of pull and cheek height for optimal comfort and shooting position. This adjustability is critical for precision shooting, as it enables the shooter to achieve a consistent and repeatable cheek weld behind the optic. Combined with the rifle’s excellent balance and ergonomics, the MRAD SMR provides a comfortable shooting experience even during extended range sessions.

Optics Ready Platform

The Barrett MRAD SMR is designed as an optics-ready platform. It features a full-length Picatinny rail on top of the receiver, allowing for the secure mounting of high-quality long-range optics. Whether using a high-magnification scope for extreme long-range shooting or a lower-power variable optic for more dynamic applications, the MRAD SMR provides a stable and reliable mounting surface.
