The HEVI-Shot HS72879 HEVI-18 Blend 28 Gauge 3" 1 1/4oz 7/8/9 Shot is a premium tungsten turkey hunting shotshell specifically engineered for 28 gauge shotguns. This advanced load combines HEVI-Shot’s high-density HEVI-18 tungsten technology with a strategic blend of #7, #8, and #9 shot sizes. Designed for hunters who prefer the light recoil and excellent handling of a 28 gauge, this load delivers dense patterns, deep penetration, and lethal performance at extended ranges while maintaining the smooth-shooting characteristics that make 28 gauge shotguns so popular among turkey hunters.
Why Choose HEVI-Shot HS72879 HEVI-18 Blend 28 Gauge?
HEVI-Shot continues to push the boundaries of non-toxic shotshell performance with the HEVI-18 Blend series. The HS72879 brings this cutting-edge technology to the 28 gauge platform, giving hunters who value reduced recoil and lighter gun weight the ability to achieve tight, deadly patterns on turkeys. By blending three different shot sizes (#7, #8, and #9) into a single shell, HEVI-Shot maximizes pellet count while preserving excellent downrange energy. The 1 1/4-ounce payload in a 3-inch shell provides an impressive number of pellets for a 28 gauge load, significantly increasing the probability of hitting the vital head and neck area. Because HEVI-18 tungsten is approximately 30% denser than lead, these pellets retain velocity and energy much farther downrange, making this an outstanding choice for hunters seeking maximum performance from their 28 gauge turkey gun.
Key Features of HEVI-Shot HS72879 HEVI-18 Blend 28 Gauge
- HEVI-18 Tungsten Blend – High-density tungsten for superior downrange velocity and energy retention
- 7/8/9 Shot Blend – Multi-size shot combination for dense, consistent patterns with high pellet count
- 1 1/4 oz Payload – Heavy shot charge optimized for 28 gauge turkey hunting
- 3-Inch Shell Length – Compatible with most 28 gauge shotguns chambered for 3" shells
- Non-Toxic Formulation – Safe for use in areas requiring non-toxic shot
- Reduced Recoil – Significantly lighter recoil than 12 gauge or 20 gauge loads
- Extended Range Performance – Maintains tight patterns and lethal energy at longer distances
Performance and Patterning
The HEVI-Shot HS72879 HEVI-18 Blend is engineered to produce exceptionally tight and consistent patterns from 28 gauge shotguns. The strategic blend of #7, #8, and #9 shot sizes creates a dense core of pellets while still providing enough larger pellets to deliver lethal energy on impact. This multi-size approach results in more pellets striking the turkey’s head and neck, dramatically increasing the chances of a clean, ethical kill.
Because HEVI-18 tungsten is significantly denser than lead, the pellets maintain velocity and kinetic energy much better than traditional lead or steel loads. This allows the HS72879 to deliver effective patterns and penetration at ranges where many 28 gauge loads begin to lose effectiveness. Many hunters report excellent results out to 45–50 yards when paired with a quality turkey choke tube. The 1 1/4-ounce payload offers an outstanding balance of pellet count and very manageable recoil, making this load ideal for hunters who want high performance without the heavy kick associated with larger gauge shells.
